What Does it Take?

As a Commander, I am asked this question a lot. "What does it take to be a Member?" Well, the truth is that it doesn't take a lot to become a member, however, it might be somewhat challenging to stay a member.

You see, each week, units train according to their Unified Training Doctrine, or UTD for short. This doctrine is an Organization wide standard that is accomplished and met each month. Because of logistical challenges and timing challenges, there can be vast amounts of training and learning required in time frame of a few days. Now, i know that can sound a bit intrusive or even intimidating, but we assure you that it will be worth your time. I compare what we do, to an insurance policy. You pay premiums on your car and home insurance, and maybe even life insurance (we hope). You pay this monetarily on the notion of chance or statistics that something will occur in the future. The same applies to your Militia Membership. Your paying through your time and efforts to learn, train, and engage with others around you, to better enable your skill set to prepare, protect, and defend you and your family, when the time comes.

It truly isn't an easy task to embark on this great undertaking, however, as you get to know your fellow Members, they will tell you that they have used this "insurance policy" at least once in their tenure. I encourage you to seek out a Member, and ask about Joining!

Thus explained, joining our ranks and being part of one of the biggest Militia's in Virginia is exciting at first, but can you do the work? Every time your unit musters, you will be required to perform the duties you signed up to do. There is no outside funding, or grants or anything of that nature. What there is are the every day people, like you and I, learning, training, and engaging with each other, every day. Whether it building a Bug Out Location or BOL, or standard marksmanship training, to wildlife survival, your training assemblies will be filled with excercises and a Unified Training Doctrine.

It is my hope that you will take the time to look through the website, and if you haven't asked a Member about Joining, you can easily and securely ask through the 'join us' tab at the top of the web page.

Hope to see you soon!

Thanks,
